Thanks George. Most of the officers in Clardy's Battalion had prior service, so I suspect that B F Carter did also. Capt. Carter's grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Carter Sr. had settled on Current River about 1815 m/l at a location about 10-12 miles south of present day Van Buren, MO. The location was described as being next to a "Creek" village. Some of these villagers are said to have remained with the Carter family after 1838, most went to IT. This family history made me curious when I located a document with a Capt. B F Carter signing as a recruiting officer in the Creek Nation.
