I'm hoping I can make it Saturday. I just finished Dr Shea's "Fields of Blood" -- excellent! I've always been sympathetic to Albert Pike but he never seemed to grasp how desperate the situation was in Arkansas. Hindman created an army where there was none and armed it, in part, with supplies and equipment that belonged to the Indian troops. Watie understood the situation and wanted to share equally with the Arkansas/Missouri troops. Pike tried to insist that the supplies/equipment belonged exclusively to the Indian division. Pike was "right". Hindman did "the right thing", militarily.
