**WILLIAMS, William Garrard "Caddo Bill" Williams, m-Anna Eastman (a Caddo), owned the land where the 1865 meeting at Camp Napoleon (now Verden, Grady County OK) was held. ..He arrived on the Washita, in what is now Caddo County in 1859 to work for the traders during his first years there. ..During the Civil War, he served in George Washington's Caddo Reserve Squadron of the Confederacy. ... Search for Williams and Washington on my "Garvin Co OK Survey" web page:

from Chapter 25-p356 of Cecile Elkins-Carter's CADDO INDIANS: WHERE WE COME FROM, Norman OK, University of Oklahoma Press (1995) 420pp. .. BtW, I think Cecile's book was written for the Caddo Tribe of Oklahoma. ..It is rather academic, i.e. she stresses archaeological studies of Oklahoma. Every Caddo and Anadarko should sheve this book.
.
Julia is Cadohadacho. Her people, "the Whitebead bunch", "came across." ..They never lived on the reservation in Texas. When they left their homeland in Louisiana sometimes after the 1835 treaty, "they came across this way — just like you cut across the pasture. They didn’t follow the road. They angled like — follow this creek, they call it Washita, today, Washita — from up there, from Red River." She paused a minute thinking about the Caddos old home at the bend of the Red River where the river lost its easterly direction and curved to the south. We had the whole county of Miller County," and Julia, speaking of the territory, above the Red River where early white settlers organized a vast area spreading from west Arkansas into a political unit they named Miller County.**

Any study of "Old Miller Co AR" should include Skipper Steely's book from handwritten records:
.
Steely, Skipper (Thomas B.), Six Months From Tennessee, Paris TX, Wright Press (1982). About Miller County, Arkansas that included now McCurtain County OK, and Lamar County TX, esp. George W. Wright (founder of Paris TX) plus a sequel Forty Seven Years (2000 unpublished manuscript in the James G. Gee Library, East Texas State University, Commerce TX.
