Gurley for 3 years or the duration of the war. On Aug. 18, 1862, the 30th Texas Cavalry was organized and Wright's Company became company A. He brought his own horse ($150) and equipment $(20). On the July/Aug 1863 muster roll he is shown as 4th corporal, company A, and that he was enrolled by Capt Wright. This unit is also known as the 1st Texas Partisan Rangers and Gurley's Regiment.
