Re: Whites in Indian Territory
Jimm - You're from Valiant? How far are you from the Wheelock Academy? My g-grandparents fled down to the immediate area around Wheelock with other Cherokees and refugees. They were there when the war ended because they had nothing to return to up in the Honey Creek area (their home and business had been destroyed by frequent skirmishes in that area. His name was Robert D. Blackstone and his wife was Louisa England Blackstone. She apparently fell ill and died there in 1866. I have a letter from P.N. Blackstone (his son) suggesting he load a wagon of potatoes he had grown and head to Webbers Falls to "make a new life." I have been totally unsuccessful in locating the ground he had grown crops on or my g-grandmother's burial site. The McCurtain Genealogy people tried to help to no avail. Do you or anyone else that monitors this website have any suggestions how or where I might look? Thanks.
