The following is a dispatch from a northern paper:

"Wm. N. Ross, a relative of John Ross, has arrived in Washington, with a communication from the latter to the President asking the Cherokees be recognized in all their treaty rights, and setting forth that what was done by the Nation, seemingly favoring the rebels, was under duress and from intimidation.

Ross lies. He at first refused, but afterward sent to the commissioner, and with the principal men of the Nation, voluntarily entered into a treaty. He was never arrested or held in duress nor was intimidated. -- True Democrat
