I think this is a good account of how easy Major Foreman men found and captured
Rebels-(Major)Lipe and his men,by following his horse's 3 nail rebel hoof prints,that
they did not brother to conceal themself on a road, they then follow the horses tied-up off the road. A guard of the horses fires a warning shot and escapes--Lipe and his men are cut off from the horses and surrendered.(The Union horses had 4 nails on one side)

Lipe went over to the Kansas 14th the rest of the war.
