Thanks for posting this. Was Washashowatinga the same person as "Wahshabenatinego", the lieutenant Company B, Broke Arm's Battalion? I'm very interested in the dispatches you mentioned. Have they been published or transcribed?

As you probably know, Lt. Albert S. McGhee and John A. Mathes (or Math) were enrolled in Co. O (Capt William Acridge's), 1st Cherokee Mtd Vols (Watie's) which in Feb. 1863 became Co. G, 2nd Cherokee Mtd Vols (Adairs).

The Eli Banic in the post you replied to was apparently not Osage, having been born in North Carolina with no evidence of living among the Osage.

By the way, I ordered your book ""From Warrior to Judge: The Biography of Wahshashowahtinega Bill Nixon Hapashutsy of the Osage Tribe 1843 to 1917"
