Re: Battle of Middle Boggy on CivilWarAlbum.com

Mike,
After reviewing old and new maps of the area, it appears the Texas Cattle Trail crossed Middle Boggy just above the mouth of Little Sandy Creek just east of the Choctaw-Chickasaw border (of 1855) and then immediately crossed Little Sandy and followed up the east side of the creek. It appears the trail continues NNE on the high ground east of Little Sandy Creek. I've been told the Texas Cattle Trail follows the route of the Dragoon Trail which, until 1855, was the eastern border of the Chickasaw District. It would appear in this particular area it later became the Stonewall-Allen Road or close to it.

I compared the 1871 Chickasaw Survey and the 1890s general land survey with modern topo and county maps. The location proposed by Carroll Messer is two miles east of OK Hwy 1 on E1505 Road (which becomes the B&L Road near the crossing of Little Sandy Creek). This is just east of the middle of Section 10, T4N R8E.
