Re: Camp of 14th KS Cav - Feb. 11, 1864

Ken,

Blunt's second train out of Ft. Scott (under Moonlight) left on November 20, 1863 (11-20-63) going to Ft. Smith, as you noted.

Surely, when MG Curtis passed thru Ft. Scott about 2-1-64 on his way to Ft. Gibson and Ft. Smith, he had heard (either from Blunt or C. W. Blair at Ft. Scott) that Moonlight was now with the 14th in Ft. Smith, and that the 11th was missing his overall leadership. Moonlight's days in Ft. Smith were numbered. He of course rejoined the 11th and was promoted to Colonel at Ft. Leavenworth on 4-25-64. So Curtis and Blunt must have strongly supported Col. Moonlight's service.
