Dr. Messer has studied the region and it's geography extensively along with period accounts of the expedition. Unlike virtually all other accounts and so-called "popular history", Dr. Messer's work is based on documented history of the people, places and events of the expedition and the vicinity of the Feb. 13, 1864 Battle of Middle Boggy.
