The CSA mail route drew my attention. My Great-Great- Great grandfather was Thomas Lewis Rider who was a mail carrier for the CSA until his death Aug. 17th,1863 at Fishers Station,I.T. west of Durant,Ok., where he is buried. He had moved his family down there from the Cherokee Nation after the war had started because being a confederate there was not healthy. After his death his 16 year old son Bulford West Rider took on the mail route after talking with Gen. Douglas A. Cooper and enlisting with the 1st. Reg. Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles at Ft. Washita, I.T. I have never known where in Texas they had to go to pick up the mail & take the out going mail. I know they carried mail as far as Boggy Depot in I.T.
