The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Dr. Pally

In the December 26, 1889, National Tribune, is a request for
the address of, "Dr. Pally of Brigade Hospital, Tahlequah and
Fort Gibson, Cherokee Nation, 1863", and for that of a Kansas
cavalry veteran's address. This was made by Jesse M. Hawthorne,
of Elkhart, Texas. I have not looked Dr. Pally up on the NPS site,
but no J.M. Hawthorne is to be found. The only "J.M. Hawthorne"
is listed as being from South Carolina, which would excuse him as
being "our man". Findagrave does list Jesse Moton Hawthorne, as
being buried in Anderson County, which is where Elkhart is located.
There is a photograph within his listing, with the information that he
was born in 1827, in Tennessee, and died in 1905. No mention of any
Civil War service. So, there is a mystery here. Who were these men
and what was their relationship?
