While recently going through the Consolidated Quartermaster Records on microfilm at
OHS (a tedious process!), I found a postbellum letter or two, regarding six stationary
engines at Fort Gibson. It seems that they were brought there during the war and
were never installed or put into use. The QM wanted to dispose of them as they were
too heavy to move west ( if so, how the heck did they drag them to FG in the middle
of the war?) and not needed on post. A local businessman wanted them for operating
his grist mills, etc.

Trivial info, yes, but nothing is going on this great site, so, why not?
