Marcy's 1849 Trail Map noted next is outstanding. Print even under high magnification is still good.
Marcy’s 1849 Map
Marcy’s Survey Map of IT of 1849 made by Lt. James H. Simpson shows a connecting road from North Fork crossing the (South) Canadian which then goes eastward passing thru a “High Ridge” (at the location and orientation of Beale’s Winchester Mountain) and joining another ferry road near Brooken, all then proceeding eastward {toward Whitefield of today}. {Magnification of subject area clearly shows this observation}. Marcy’s 1849 southern trail {~ OK 31} will soon become known as the California Trail.

Longtown Confusion?
Lt. A. W. Whipple’s Railroad Survey of August 1853 {while resting when following OK 31 near Quinton), sends an expedition northward on August 3-4, 12 miles along Longtown Creek to its mouth with the (South) Canadian. {Perhaps Whipple’s Longtown Creek report will later get Lt. E. F. (Ned) Beale confused when Beale is at Emachaya Creek near Whitefield in November 1858}. Whipple’s railroad survey then proceeds on southwest toward McAlester.

Southeast Oklahoma Trails Map
Muriel H. Wright summarizes all of the trails from Fort Smith in Chronicles of Oklahoma, Vol. 11, No.2, June 1933, p.43=802:

Ms. Wright provided a detailed map of Southeast Oklahoma showing all of the historic trails, including Beal’s Wagon Road crossing the Canadian at North Fork Town. I have a copy, but cannot find a website containing the map.
