Wiley Britton mentioned the horrible accident of April, 1863, when a cannon prematurely during the ceremony to raise the flag
in celebration of the reoccupation of Fort Gibson. I have found that that man was Private Edward Stapleford, of Hopkins
Battery (3rd Independent Kansas Battery. He has no known grave.
