Re: forming Clarksville, TN Civil War roundtable

Greg,

I have a great interest in Civil War history, and would like information about your Civil War Roundtable in Clarksville, Tennessee. My wife's great-great grandfather, Major Frank White, was a famous officer of the 15th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He was the chief officer (under General Sheridan) that led the famous charge up Missionary Ridge (near Chattanooga).

Major White was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of the 17th Indiana Mounted Infantry, and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in January 1865. White led a saber charge with four companies of the 17th against a much larger Confederate cavalry force commanded by Nathan Bedford Forrest.

White was brevetted Brigadier General of the Indiana Volunteers, dated March 1865. After the war, he was a farmer, lawyer, and U.S. Internal Revenue Collector (1873-79). White died in Terre Haute, Indiana, on November 19, 1879.

I have many interesting stories to tell about his adventures, and a large collection of Civil War materials to share with your group!
