Re: 1st) Company B. 5th Kentucky Mounted Infantry

Dear Martin,

We are probably "distantly" related. I descend from Thomas Lewis and Hannah Hopkins (and related families)from Morgan County, KY.

I've looked for this John C. Lewis before and believe he may have ended up in the 7th Battalion Confederate Cavalry, but I'm not sure and haven't order CMSR's for the John C. Lewis in the 5th KY MTD INF or the 7th BN CONF CAV.

You can read about the 7th Battalion Confederate Cavalry at this link, an excellent history done by Jeff Weaver.

There is an accompanying roster identifying one LEWIS, JOHN C.: Co. G, Res. of Morgan Co., KY.

He "probably" was also a member of Field's Company of Partisan Rangers.

I'd like your thoughts and what is your LEWIS line?

Jim Martin
