Re: "Devil" John Wright

Wright belonged to the VSL and later to the 13th Cav. CSA, also known as Caudill's Army. He was caputred at Wise Courthouse, VA in mid-1863 but that didn't last long because, to paraphrase Wright, he disappeared into the laurel thickets while on the march as a prisoner. The 13th was with Morgan at Cynthiana in 6/64 (for the most concise account of that battle see Penn's Rattling Spurs & Broad Brimmed Hats). Wright was wounded there and evidently taken prisoner. He joined an Ohio unit, the 22nd (?) maybe, becoming a galvanized Yankee no doubt, and subsequently saw service in Arkansas. The problem with Wright is that every account you read will give different dates, different versions and such. He's hard to pin down! The Kentucky Explorer had an article about a CSA vet who was with Wright when he was wounded at Cynthiana.
Keep searchin'!
Ny the way, Jeff & I plan to repring the State Line, hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
