Roger,

Though Kentucky never officially seceded, it is considered by many of us to be a Southern state, just as it is considered by many to be a Union state. One thing for certain, it was divided. Recently, I received an email from a lady who was researching her family who had immigrated from Kentucky to Texas after the War Between The States. She related to me a story of how her great, great grandfather had sided with the Union during the war and was disowned by his family. He rose to the rank of captain and was killed in battle. When asked to claim the body, the family refused. According to her, the army delivered his body to his family home and layed him on the front porch where it layed for two days before neighbors finally took matters in their own hands and buried him. There are many stories similar to this from Kentucky and many of us had divided families like the lady who related this story to me.
