There is a reference to this event in the History of Kentucky 1874, Lewis Collins & Richard Collins; Vol 1, section entitled: Annals of Kentucky. Mentioned as victims of Gen. Kirby Smith's army was Capt H King, his two sons, R M Singleton and 12 others mostly volunteers in the defense of Crab Orchard. They were charged with being bushwhackers.
