My ancestor, John A. Baker was in the 12th Regiment, Kentucky Infantry and was killed on Oct. 8, 1862 in the battle of Perryville. His grave is in Hurricane Cemetery in Coles County,Illinois. His headstone in Hurricane Cemetery reads "John A. Baker, Oct. 8, 1862, killed in the Battle of Perryville".
My question is this: How did they transport this body from Perryville, Ky to Coles County, Illinois in the year 1862. Did his family just put a marker in his memory in the family cemetery or was his body actually brought there?
