Joe,
Randall Osbourne and Jeff Weaver published "The Virginia State Rangers and State Line" a few years ago. In it, they indicate that Wright was a member of the VSL, although the unit was unknown. My boss at work is a direct descendant of Wright and has a copy of a biography published some years ago. It refers to his Confederate service, but does not list his unit. Another part of the book seems to indicate that Wright was captured at some point in the war and later served briefly in a Union unit.

Incidentally, my wife had several ancestors from Tazewell county who served in the 22d Virginia Cavalry.
