Does anyone have any information on Camp Nelson and the civilian refugees especially from Tennessee? Would there have been any kind of census or lists of these folks? I am searching for the wartime whereabouts of Squire James Franklin Hale. Hale had three sons and two nephews in the 1st Tn Vol Cav USA that made their way from E. Tn into Ky and enlisted at or near Cumberland Gap. The senior Hale was a politically active Whig and Unionist prior to the war and would have been hanged or jailed had he remained in Tennessee.
