I read a story recently that stated that the Galt House burned down sometime during the Civil War and that there were 12 dead Union officers whose coffins had been stored there waiting for transportation back to their homes, plus a Federal Judge, George W.Lane, who died while staying at the Galt House.
All were consumed in the fire.
Can anyone verify this story, and put a date to it?
