Stephen:

Congratulations on your efforts mark the graves of the men buried in Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green!

I have a distant relative who died of disease in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on 24 December 1861. He was Pvt. Norman McLeod of Company G, 3rd Kentucky Infantry, CSA. He was born in Gallia County, Ohio, Circa 1835. He was the son of Edward W.T. and Elizabeth McLeod. Their name is sometimes spelled "McCloud", but the correct spelling is McLeod.

According to family history, his parents used a team of mules and a wagon to retrieve and transport his body back to Marshall County, Kentucky, were he was initially buried in the Vaughn Cemetery in Marshall County.

However, in the early 1940's the TVA built Kentucky Dam and in 1944 impounded Kentucky Lake. I have no information that Private McLeod's body was ever relocated to another cemetery. If his grave was relocated, I can't find it. His actual grave now probably lies under 30 feet of water in Kentucky Lake.

Also, there was a second soldier of this name at Bowling Green. He was 2nd Corporal Norman L. McLeod of Company A of the 3rd Kentucky Infantry. This man was the son of George W. McLeod and Nancy {Goheen} McLeod. 2nd Cpl. Norman L. McLeod was born in Marshall County, Kentucky, Circa 1842. I have no evidence this man survived the war, but I am sure he did not die at Bowling Green.

I would appreciate it if you would include Private Norman McLeod of Company G, 3rd Kentucky Infantry CSA in your listing. He was 26 years of age at the time of his death.

Again, congratulations on your endeavor.
