Re: Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War

Dear Karen:

Have you inquired into the Civil War history of Ohio? The web has some interesting sites dealing with the Civil War dealing with regiments that served from Kentucky, Ohio, etc. What do you already know about him? Do you know his regiment, company, muster in date, etc.? Or are you looking for this information? If you know the above information, you may get his military records and pension papers from the National Archives in Washington, D. C. It is not hard to do. There is a site that may help you locate the information needed for the Archives. It is called the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System operated by the National Park Service. They are still in the process of putting in all the names and information about these veterans. If he is not there, try a website called Ohio in the Civil War. It lists regiments and rosters of the veterans. I hope this helps a little. Please keep me posted of your progress.

If he served out of Ohio, you may also have a look-up done at the Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, OH, at 1-800-998-PRES. Ask for the library. Someone there will assist you. They have a very complete list of soldiers from Ohio and that area.
