Im looking for info on my great great great grandfather's unit, the confederate 8th ky cavalry. all i really know is that it was formed in the fall of '62 and my grandfather surrendered in georgia in april of '65. it was on morgans raid, and half of the regiment didnt make it across the ohio at the beginning of the raid because they were the rearguard and were attacked and went back to tennessee. it was consolidated with the 12th at sometime. this unit is often confused with the 8th ky infantry which became mounted and is also referred as the 8th ky cav. this is really all i know. i dont know anything about the rest of their history, and the soldiers and sailors website just shows my grandfather's oath of allegiance paper. nothing on his company or actions. any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks!
