Kentuckians were like a great many of the people during the war. Most were just plain country folk who had no political stake in either side and just wanted to be left alone. This attitude was prevalent in the region encompassing Eastern Kentucky, Southwestern Virginia, Western North Carolina, and East Tennessee.
