General Note Previously published, Cincinnati, 1868, under title: History of the First Kentucky brigade. The designation of the brigade as "First Kentucky" is unofficial. It was organized in 1861, later divided into two brigades, which were afterwards reunited. Probably more often known by name of its successive commanders.
General Note Besides general history of the organization, the work contains sketches, with roster and biographies, of the following: 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th infantry regiments, and Byrne's and Cobb's batteries of artillery.
General Note In addition to the above, the command included at one time or another these Kentucky organizations; 3d and 7th infantry, 1st cavalry, Morgan's squadron of cavalry, and Graves' and Hudson's batteries; also 31st and 35th regiments and 4th battalion, Alabama infantry, 31st Mississippi infantry, and Crews' battalion Tennessee infantry.
