Since the Kentucky Orphans didn't include any cavalry units, I'm perplexed as to why the book would include mention of the 1st Kentucky Cavalry. A skirmish took place in McLemore's Cove GA on Sept. 11, 1863, before the Battle of Chickamauga, but I don't see any Kentucky cavalry units listed among units involved.

The 1st Kentucky Cavalry was assigned to Col. Harrison's Brigade with the 8th and 11th Texas Cavalry. Here's a letter from one of the Texas Rangers describing events after Chickamauga --
