My great grandfather, Thomas O'Malley, (born in Ireland) enrolled in the Provost Guard October 19, 1861 for a three-year enlistment, but mustered out Sept. 3, 1862. He did not transfer to the 34th Kentucky Infantry. Can anyone tell me where in Louisville the Provost Guard barracks were located? Were prisoners kept in a central location? Did members of the Provost Guard have quarters together or live in private homes? I'm am interested in any details concerning the guard during 1861-1862. Thanks,
Kate
