A question concerning a soldier in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry (Union):

I have found several references to a Major Lawson (such as in Davis Tillson's letter to G.M. Bascom [OR: Series 1, vol 49, Part 2 (Mobile Bay Campaign):438]).

I am trying to identify this Maj. Lawson. In Speed's Union Regiments of Kentucky, I see a reference to a Joseph Lawson who was captain of Co. G (p. 232). I have found no reference to Joseph ever being a major, nor of any other Major Lawson in the 11th.

Anyone have any ideas?
