Re: Terry's Texas Rangers - Woodsonville

Alan:

I am not trying to belabor the point but further documentation is available relating to the cavalrymen being armed with Revolvers in the 1861 year of the war. The official report of the skirmish south of Morgantown, KY between the Tensas Rangers (a company of Wirt Adams 1st Mississippi) and Captain Netters company of Burbridge's 26th KY USA, spells out that the Rangers (Tensas and not Texas) were unable to effectively attack Netter's men who were armed with Colt Revolving Rifles.

The report states the The Rangers (actually a company from Tensas Parrish Louisiana) carried Guns and Repeaters.

Helm's Cavalry and Phifer's cavalry also operated in the area during 1861 but I have no specifics on their armament. I have already cited the evidence as to Forrest's men having revolvers in an earlier post.

All of the Cavalry units to which I have referred were Confederate Units of course.
