I have a relative who is buried in Clinton County, at Locust Ridge Cemetery. The inscriptions says ANDY BIRD PVT CO A 3 CAVALRY CSA 1809-1906 His name is really Anderson Bird, and he was originally from Sevier County, Tennessee. He served from Fentress County, where he settled before the war. He was an old man when he enlisted. I have not been able to find his actual death date, and he never got a pension to my knowledge. Anderson served in "McDonald's Battalion." I understand this was one of Forrest's regiments. He was captured not once, but twice, Last captured at Resaca, Georgia. Both times sent to Rock Island Prison. What is astounding, is that despite all this, he lived to be 97 years old! I searched the Confederate Veteran Magazines for 1906, in hopes of finding a death notice, but no luck. It is a mystery as to why he is buried at Locust Ridge. I was wondering if there was a local paper that might have by some chance published his death notice? Someone had to know he died, as he has this inscription on his stone. For years the relatives of Andrew Bird, (his brother) of Fentress County, thought this was the tombstone for Andrew, but Andrew served in the Union Army. Thanks.
