My Great-Great-Great-Great Grandfather Robert Henry Henderson original Enlisted in the 1st Kentucky Cavalry along with two of his brothers intresting sidenote his father a West Virginia Served in the 36th Virginia Infantry his name was either Robert Thomas Henderson or Thomas Robert Henderson he and his brother Samuel fought at Fort Donelson and opted to go out with Forrest and where officially transfered to the 3rd Tennessee Cavalry but within a year they had recruited their own Company of Scouts that would serve throughout the war as Henderson's Scouts for Forrest and at one time Thomas was the Head of All Scout for Forrest's Corps and was Head Scout for awhile for Pemberton at Vicksburg and meet and put one a demanstration for British Colonel Fremantle. Well anyway back to Henry he and his Brother William were captured and sent to Fort McHenry in Baltimore William escaped and Henry gave the oath of Allegiance they both joined a group of Southern Sympathizers in Baltimore who I have read about in the Officiall Records who would send men to the best place for enlistment in the Confederate Army and would eventually unanamously enlisted themselves one they founded out General Lee was coming up through Maryland on his Second Invasion it was just by coquencedent that William and Robert found themselves in the same regiment in different companies and the Unit they selected really makes since because they enlisted in the 56th Virginia Infanty of Garnett's Brigade of Pickett's Division which had been left behind as guards in Maryland rather than following the Army into Pennsylvania into on the last day of the Battle when the would fight in Pickett's Charge. It makes since that since they were in one place on guard for a prolonged period of time it would be easy to locate them and to enlist.
