Hello Everyone,

For part of my Father's Christmas present I am researching our ancestors who fought in the Civil War. I am trying to be very detailed. Long Story we have an ancestor who fought for the Union in the 1st Kentucky Cavalry. He joined early in 1863. Under the regiment activities every where I look I see "Operations around Monticello and SE Kentucky April 26th-May 12th". I can't really find much on what the purpose of these operations were or the strategic importance Monticello has in late April of 1863. Anyone know any info on this or where I could find some in a fairly short amount of time?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
