I don't know if this helps or not but I have been working on Jacob C. Bennett, McLean Co. He enlisted first as 2nd Lieut., Co H, 8 Reg't Kentucky Infantry on 13 Oct 1862 in Hopkinsville, KY for three years. Resigned by letter to Capt. A. R. Shacklett dated 1 Jan 1862 and asked to go back into the ranks as a private. Request accepted and he was replaced by John J. Dennis. He was captured at Ft Donelson 16 Feb 1862 but he had escaped on 29 May 1862 according to the roll of prisoners at Camp Morton. Letter of resignation says the unit was commanded by Col Burnett and "now stationed at Camp Alcorn, Hopkinsville, KY."

Jake enlisted in the 10th Kentucky under A. R. Johnson, was Capt of Co A, one of six officers who escaped with John H Morgan. After escape, operated an independent company out of Overton Co., TN and known as "Guerilla Jake" throughout western and southern KY. Surrendered 22 May 1865 Carthage, TN.

I am looking for his brother, James D. Bennett, who disappeared from census after 1860 and wondering if he enlisted in the 8th KY. Anyone have a list of men?

Thanks
Sandy
