I have been researching my family history. I just ran across a posting, a copy of a reprint of a letter from a Major Greene who thinks he caputered Quantrill. He states the prisoner claims he is the estranged brother of Dr. Warren J Burgess a Surgeon for the 17th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. I know the prisoner in the article is not Quantrill but I am wondering if he is Warren Burgess' brother Timothy T. Burgess.
Timothy T Burgess killed Daniel Murphy in 1854 from what we believe was a gambling dispute. When Murphy died four days aftert he shooting, TT Burgess fled. Our history shows he was in Mexico, Los Angeles, Pueblo Colorado... He is known through is life as a liquor and cigar dealer, owns a saloon in Walla Walla and is charged with operating a gambling table. He served in the Mexican War. I found the name Burgess on a letter or report stating the Burgess under command of Speed Fry was acknowledged for his bravery delivering messages on the front line at the Battle of Buena Vista. TT Burgess has many years of living on the run, although he is married and has two sons.
Can you off any help or additional information on these men?
