The Warterfields in far western Kentucky joined west Kentucky units. I doubt that the Waterfileds in Virginia and North Carolina units were from outside those states. The Warterfileds of west Kentucky had been here soon after the opening of the lands west of the Tennessee River in the 1818 Chickasaw/Jackson Purchase. Their Revolutionary War veteran ancestor is even buried here in the county.
The person that started the Waterfield question said he is supposed to have served with the local troops from here, not a Virginia unit.
