I've read the Bush and Raab books on Tilghman and a bio paper on him written by Grant Quertermous when he was a student at Murray State. The Bush book is terrible, an extremely shoddy piece of work. The Raab book is better but it too contains very serious errors. For example: Grant's forces seized Paducah by crossing the pontoon bridge from Illinois. A cursory check of the facts by a school boy would reveal that's wrong. The Quertermous paper is good but, like the two books, does not include anything about Tilghman being in Paducah when Grant's forces came ashore. Grant's memoirs seem correct on the subject, but I'd like to find corroborating documentation.
