Does anyone know which Yankee units were operating out of Illinois, crossing the border into the area of Paducah and Marshall Co Ky in and around the close of the war? Joseph P Staton owned a farm in the area that was totally destroyed and his wife Mary Short died of exposure. Does anyone have the history of that area as it relates to the Staton or Short families?
