In Response To: CO of 14th KY Cav ()

Mike --

This regiment served in two detachments. One under Lieut. Col. Joseph Hill included the 2nd and 3rd battalions of the regiment, stationed at Richmond KY. The other, apparently under Major Joseph W. Stivers, was at Mount Sterling KY. Stivers was addressed in a communication dated Feb. 2, 1863, as commanding the 1st battalion at Mount Sterling. The number surrendered to Lieut. Col. R. S. Cluke at Mount Sterling on March 21, 1863 (287 men and 14 officers captured) are not that many less than the aggregate present for this battalion on Jan. 31, 1863.
