Haynie's Company, 23rd Regiment Tennessee Infantry**, enlisted July 26, 1861 at Gallatin for 12 months, appointed 2nd Sergeant May 9, 1862, captured at the battle of Murfreesboro/Stones River, Tenn., December 31, 1862, sent to Camp Douglas, Illinois prison camp, sent to City Point, Virginia for exchange May 21, 1863, died June 25, 1863 from wounds received at Hoover's Gap, near Beech Grove, Tenn., June 25, 1863, "Killed - Wounded by minie ball in left lliac region"

** This company was successively designated as Captain Haynie's Company, Company G and (2nd) Company A, 23rd Regiment Tennessee Infantry

Puryear, Company A, 8th Tennessee Infantry, enlisted May 22, 1861, at Nashville, promoted 1st (Orderly) Sergeant August 28, 1861, elected 2nd Lieutenant on the re-organization of the Regiment May 8,1862, promoted 1st Lieutenant March 8, 1863, promoted Captain August 5, 1863, last appears on a Roster at Dalton, Georgia dated May 2, 1864, no further records

This company was known at various times as Captain Puryear's Company, Company I and Company A, 8th Regiment Tennessee Infantry

William H. Puryear, Private, enlisted in Company H, 3rd Regiment Cavalry, Morgan's Brigade** September 1, 1862 at Hartsville, by Col. J. D. Bennett for 3 years, captured at Salineville, Ohio, July 26, 1863, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio prison camp arriving July 28, transferred to Camp Douglas, Illinois August 22, 1863, escaped during the night of February 24, 1864***, captured at Gallatin,Tenn. June 1, 1864, escaped en route to Louisville, Ky., no further records

** This company subsequently became (2d) Company G, 9th (Ward's) Regiment Tennessee Cavalry
