Re: Battle Record for Field's Company Partisan Ran

Hello,

No I never received a response as of today.

My great-grandfather was Private Charles Wesley Higginbotham (Spelled Higgambottom in the muster and pay rolls) who served in Field's Company of Kentucky Partisan Rangers from when they first formed until around October of 1862 or 1863. He is listed as "deserted" in some sources while in others he is listed as "mustered out". It is my understanding that Field's Company would disband before the war ended and that many of the men would transfer to other commands. After the war Charles would move with his wife and children to Western Kansas and would finally die sometime after 1900 in Cole Camp, Benton County, Missouri. My grandmother remembers a few family stories about him and his Confederate service. Conflicting census records list His father as being born in Kentucky or Tennessee and his mother was probably born in Virginia or North Carolina. A family story also claims that he died and was buried at Cassville, Missouri and that there are many Higginbothams that lived or are still residing around that area of the country. I would love to find the location of his grave. I have an old picture of him and his wife taken sometime after the war (he has white hair in the photograph).

Other than the above information on my ancestor, I don't have much else on him or the unit as a whole. I would love to exchange further info with you or anyone else who may be able to connect other parts of this unit's history and service. Some of the original unit rosters are available on footnote.com if you need a copy of your ancestor's service record.

Thank you,

Jacob M. Lake
