These are the only Elkins found in the roster of the 2nd Kentucky Cavalry

Bowles for 3 years, transferred to artillery prior to March 11, 1863, captured July 12, 1863 at Bryantsburg, Indiana with Morgan's Men, received at Camp Morton Prison Camp, Indianapolis, Indiana July 15, 1863, forwarded to Camp Douglas, Illinois prison camp August 18, 1863, released on taking to Oath of Allegiance to the United States February 2, 1865, description: light complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, 5' 7-1/4"
