Re: Clarksville TN CWRT corrected date

I have been trying to find out more information about my great grandfather, John Kellow who served in the 14th Tenn infantry before transferring to Woodward's 2nd Ky Cavalry. Through John Walsh's help, I found that he had deserted the cavalry several months before the Battle of Chickamaugua. I know from Kellow's obituary in the Clarksville Leaf Chronicle in Nov of 1927 that he was a raider along the Cumberland during the last months of the war. That at the conclusion of the war, he was arrested by the Union and sentenced to be hanged. His fiance, Alice Mathis managed to get him transferred from Clarksville jail to Russelville, KY, then to Bowling Green and then to Louisville, where she bought his freedom. I'd like to know what he was convicted of and any other information about what he was doing between the summer of 1863 and the end of the war. In his pension application, he states he was under command of Captain Hood's cavalry in Dec of 64, carried orders to General Lyon who had entered Hopkinsville,Ky. On returning, he found Gen. Hood had retreated south and he couldn't get through the Union lines, so he became a raider.

Though born in TN, I live in California which makes it more difficult to do research. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Anne Downs
