It appears from the 3 individual records from the NARA Compiled Service Record files that Kentucky Federal records are
quite fragmented

There are only four cards found in his Compiled Service Record file. There is a possibility that the folks at Fold3, failed to copy the complete file found at the National Archives.

2 - Field and Staff Muster Roll, dated Oct. 31, 1861, Adjutant (1 Ky Cav.), 2nd Reg't Kentucky Cavalry, presence not stated, evaluation of horse $ 110, Evaluation of horse equipments $____100, Enrolled & mustered in Oct 8/61 at Camp Muldrow for 3 years Next Roll on File, Aug 1862

3 - Field and Staff Muster Roll, dated July 17, 1865 at Lexington, N. C. , Adjutant, 2nd Reg't Kentucky Cavalry, Mustered out of service June 30/62 per Gen Order No __ War Dept - Age 22-

4 - Individual Must-out Roll, John M. Hewitt, Lt. & Ajt. Co.___, 2nd Regiment Kentucky Cavalry, age 20 years, Louisville Ky. Aug 6, 1862, Muster-out to date June 30, 1862
Remarks: To pay for one Sabre, belt & plate. One Nose bag & one horse brush
