12th. Kentucky aka 1st. Kentucky

Hello to my fellow researchers.
My GGGUncle, Finis Y. (Uen Ewing?) Simmons was born in Hickman (later Fulton) county Kentucky Sept. 8, 1843.
His mother inherited land in Obion county Tn. and they moved to near Harris Station abt. 1844.
The family is listed on the 1850 Obion county Dist. 1 census. Abt. 1858 The Simmons family moved to
Newburg in Izard county and homesteaded a farm.

Apparently Finis went back to Obion county soon after the WBTS broke out. His Arkansas Confederate Pension
states he enlisted in the spring of 1863 in Co. B 1st. Kentucky Cavalry and served until May 1865 After the war
he is listed in the 1870 census Harris area of Obion county again.

Unfortunately there are no surviving Service Records, and although Arkansas asked for proof of service by comrades
if possible, Finis Simmons chose to use his younger brother Marcus who was too young to serve, and Mary V. Brockwell
his sister-in-law, who knew Finis as a neighbor in both Tennessee and Arkansas .

After considerable research on the various "1st Kentucky Cavalries" I have concluded that Faulkner's 12th. Kentucky
is far and away the best fit.
Company B was raised in both Fulton Co. Ky. and Obion Co. Tn.
Lt. Nailing of Co. B lived only a few households away from the Simmons family in 1860.
The 12th. Kentucky was known early as the 1st Kentucky.

Do those of you with some knowledge of the 12th. also think this is a plausible, or even likely scenario ?
Are you aware of any other confusion in regards to the 1st vs. 12th designations ?

I am very curious to get your thoughts in this matter.

Kindest Regards Charlie
