ASJ's pistols were picked up after his death at Shiloh in Corinth by his son William Preston Johnston and immediately given to then Col. William Preston of KY (his uncle). When General William Preston was made ambassador to Mexico by Jeff Davis he gave the "Shiloh" pistols back to W. P. Johnston, then in Richmond. These in turn were captured by the 4th Mich. Cavalry from WPJ in Georgia when accompanying Jeff Davisin May 1865. These pistols have never surfaced and ARE NOT related to a single shot pistol featured on a series on PBS! Further questions contact me at Histmilitaria@comcast.net. God love ya!
